Chicago-area sump backup installers

Grid is down and the crock is climbing. This is a starting directory of Chicagoland companies that publicly advertise sump pump install, battery backup, or waterproofing with a sump — city plus suburbs people actually search: Naperville, Oak Park, Aurora, Evanston, Elgin, Joliet, and nearby. Phones are from each company’s own site as of Saturday, August 29, 2026. Not exhaustive. Not an endorsement. SumpPick is not the contractor.

City water vs a well at the house

A water-powered backup needs pressure from a municipal water main. It will not run on a private household well: when the grid dies, the well pump dies with it, and there is no city-main pressure to drive the backup.

Water-powered will not work on well water. City source (Lake Michigan, Fox River, or a municipal well field) is not the same thing as a well in your yard. If the house is on a pressurized city main, water-powered is a real option. If you have a well pump, skip it and use a battery backup — or a generator that can run the AC primary. Confirm what is at your house, not the town slogan.

Public utility pages, checked Aug 29, 2026:

  • Chicago and Oak Park — municipal Lake Michigan. Oak Park’s water quality report: Lake Michigan via the City of Chicago, village mains and reservoirs.
  • Naperville — municipal Lake Michigan via the DuPage Water Commission (City of Naperville Water Utility).
  • Evanston, Skokie, Arlington Heights — municipal Lake Michigan. Evanston treats lake water and supplies Skokie and the Northwest Water Commission. Arlington Heights switched from deep wells to Lake Michigan in 1985 (village water report); wells kept for emergency use only.
  • Aurora — municipal blend of Fox River surface water plus city shallow/deep wells, treated and pumped into a pressurized distribution system with storage tanks (City of Aurora 2024 water quality report).
  • Elgin — municipal, mostly Fox River plus some city deep wells. Elgin’s utility notes water towers help hold pressure, including during power outages — that is city-main pressure, not a private well.
  • Joliet — still a pressurized municipal system, currently from city groundwater wells. A Lake Michigan pipeline is under construction; city and regional reporting put service around 2030. Until then, Joliet city water is well-sourced, not a private household well.

We did not find a reliable lot-by-lot map of private wells. Unincorporated Kane, McHenry, and far west/southwest parcels are more likely to have a well. If you are not billed by a city or village water department, assume well until you confirm.
